I recently purchased this at an estate sell. Its hand painted and shows a lot of age. Might be some type of fantasy or tourist piece but google does give me some hits of a Churcher and Christie shop existing back then...  The date on it says 1754.. could mean in business since 1754 not necessarily the date of the sign.

 Hi , Longbow .  Yes It means the company was founded in 1754 , as the sign is definitely not 270 years old .  It looks to be a modern , purely decorative piece .

Well at first glance it might.. but I deal US signs a lot and see many of our reproductions and fantasy pieces and it does not look anything like them.

Here is the back. It appears hand hammered/ hand made. Has real patina and somebody would have to dig very deep in old records to bring this companys name up. Is this common practice in the UK to make such fantasy signs?

If it was a US sign I would be dating it at least late 1800's to early 1900's compared to old trade signs I have seen here.

I dont know.. I dont think so. But I am no metal expert. The only thing I currently have in my collection from that period to compare is a advertising charger and its much more refined and seems machine made. Dates from 1891-1902.

Ah, the old US Red raven beer sign, not one of my favourites, always struggled to understand the composition ? much prefer this one
