The Richmond Cavendish Co Ltd of Liverpool was set up in 1861, as a joint venture between Cope's and Hignett's to handle and exploit overseas sales in sweetened tobaccos on behalf of both companies and others including John Player's. The firm was liquidated soon after the formation of the ITC. Brands such as "Pioneer" and other trade marks were absorbed by Hignett Bros & Co. In 1930 the Hignett branch merged with the Ogden branch.
This tip-tray is tin and a bit of a rarity and in reasonable condition for it's age. The "Pioneer" brand is mentioned in the 1897 catalogue by Richmond Cavendish. You still see the brand name but on Hignett tins. Has any member come across these before??????
