Hi everyone,
Im new to the forum but have been collecting for a few years now.Im looking for a small/medium milkmaid sign for my collection,doesn't have to be mint but preferable no restoration.
Any help would be much appreciated.

You should have been at the auction at Battle, East Sussex, yesterday with £1050 in your hand, you would have got just what you were looking for!!! |

Yes,I just had a look at the auction results and you are correct about the sign being just what I wanted,however that was about double what I had I'm mind of spending on one!...or is that the going price these days?Thanks |

Sadly I don't know the full story of how the Milkmaid sign was found. It is so mint it still has the remains of the original paper cartage label with a milkmaid on it on the reverse. I was really lucky and honoured to be able to buy a fair number of signs from the collection of the late, great and much missed sign collector Mike Worrad who was a pioneer of advertising collecting back in the 1960s/70s/80s. Mike and his wife Brenda were at the forefront of sign collecting in those early days trading out of North Wales into London and all over Britain. On his many visits to my house and at fairs we would talk for hours about old advertising. The Mikmaid was one of the first enamels I bought from Mike and Brenda's collection as it was so rare to find an enamel sign in this condition. Mike would always enthuse about the wonderful gloss on it. His Rajah Cigar sign was also pristine so I had to have that one as well. Mike recognised true enthusiasm for old advertising and really wanted all his signs to have a good home where they would be appreciated and looked after. Mike's big Volvo estate was a regular meeting place for collectors at fairs and shows and the stuff that came out of it was often breathtaking... Happy days! |

Thanks for sharing that FB,that is a museum quality sign you have there!
If anyone does know of a similar,albeit not mint sign the same size as that one,please let me know. |
