Just wondered how you guys are seeing the market at the moment, especially those in the trade or just adding to their collection.

Looking at higher end watches, the market is in decline, what gives with enamel signs at present?

I haven't bought much lately, then this week bought 2, one higher price than I bought same last year, only different colour, the other one identical to one i own, bought a bit cheaper.

So to me looks like status quo

I've been sitting on the sidelines for the last couple years, sign pricing has gone a bit nuts, even for crappy condition signs. It Covid that seems to have driven up pricing on collectibles as people with money had nothing to do and nothing to spend money on. Only my opinion but seems to make sense, will have to see what happens with pricing in the next year or two

I agree Mick, lots of people were better off, me included, with no commuting fares to pay for. Now the country is on it's knees, be interesting to see.
I personally feel, there are more richer folk, than quality enamels out there!

Personally I think signs generally are very overpriced at the moment and I see prices falling soon

Got to agree with you , Ross . That's my sentiments too , on the subject . Some signs are offered at totally unrealistic prices .

Yes mad prices..But are they mad prices?? 1970z v.good signs were big money back then..A brand new Ford Capri was £700..A rare enamel would be £40..Nectar tea signs were Max £3.00..A £1000 for a sign was unheard of back then,,no matter how rare or what it condition was..plz sum 1 correct me if im wrong..A weeks rent was alot then,,gas, lekki its Always been exspensive ..No 1 owned a tele they were all rental..So to go out and buy a good sign at £40 was madness..Enamels have gone up and up and up..At times they have stood still,,but they have never gone down in price..If im honest i hope i see the day when the arse end does drop out of enamels and the Genuine average avvid collector can add more signs to their collections for the Pure love of them👍

This is only my opinion for what its worth..Some pictorial signs are works of art..Personaly i never get fed up of looking at them..They always look good. The way they were made, the vibrant colours, the way they have stood the test of time through wars, through all sorts of weathers, the way they were transported from enamel factories to all over the country by canal, horse and cart and trains..The people who died from the lead paint making them,,no ppe back them..What fantastic and interesting items they are..Some people blow £1000z on a scribble on canvas, paint all over the show and you cant make out (i cant anyway) what its suppozed to be..But some twat tells mr & mrs Rich from nottinghill its the bollox, few glasses of overpriced wine and a spoilt mrs gets a crock of shit which as no history and will attract abit of attention from her mates on coffee mornings..Enamels look good in any surounding..new house old house, outside on a fence..Everybody will pass comment at some stage on seeing them..I remember them fags, soap, food etc etc..At times people have said to me with No interest in enamels at all "i like that, where you get that from,im sure theres one of them at the bottom of my garden"..

I think there are a whole new group of collectors out there now who are avid to buy as we were all those years ago.

Very hard to find signs to sell at a profit, if the market were collapsing there would be bargains to be had.

I agree with Batleycarr .
A new generation who are often more cashed up than we were and are not afraid of paying well over the odds for a high end example . We've seen some  phenomenal price hikes over the last ten years or so  to reflect this . Also a lot more ( shall we say ( pedestrian ) collectors who are keen to acumulate the more modest examples at a more realistic price .

Apart from the odd find ( mostly direct to me from other collectors ) I am not actively seeking out examples any more . Can't compete in that market .
On the flip side those of us with long term collections stand to benefit . ( You can't take it with ya !

Hi all

I've just found an old 'R whites Mineral waters' sign

I've no idea of it's value.

Is there anywhere I can look for a rough guide

Many thanks,

Hi . It would be helpful if you could manage to post a picture of it . Some people do struggle to  post on here , it's not straight forward i'm afraid .
