Apologies if I go off form but I'm completely new to this and this is my first post!

I have an enamel sign that I found about fifteen years ago, holding up the bottom of a neighbour's garden, and it's no longer tolerated by 'er indoors; cluttering up the shed.

I want it to go to a good home where someone will appreciate it. I'd given it to a local pub but the landlord couldn't find anywhere to put it so kept it in his cellar for several years. I've taken it back and need to pass it on but would like to know a little more about it first, like probable age, commonality, etc.

It's a Wills's Star Cigarettes sign, 13 inches wide and 8-foot long!

I've mounted it on two wooden batons because otherwise it would bend too much when being moved and could snap in two. I estimate it would cost around £50-60 to post it within the UK but if there's anyone interested in Central Scotland, I'd be willing to deliver it myself, within reason.

Can any of you enlighten me as to its background and can you, or someone you know, handle this monster?

  Stephen

Can anyone see the photo I thought I'd attached?
If not, what's the best way to do so?

hi ya mate...im no exspert on these enamel signs but i just thought i would try and help you out as much as i can and do the descent thing and reply to your posting...its quite a common sign "wills star" but by no means a common size..it dates  around 1930ish or there abouts..the problem i think with the sign is the size.,if it was 6ft shorter  and got a packet on,it would create more interest..price wise i would say £40 to £60 but like i said mate im no exspert...hope this helps "BB"..

Thanks BB; a good and kind reply.

Perhaps I should have left it where it was, propping up the garden. At least it served a purpose there!

With the sign being so big, are pubs and clubs the most likely group to show any interest? Not many people will have the 'walls' for it.

I suspect proper collectors like yourselves will find this just a bit too big to handle but if you have any friends or acquaintances in Central Scotland who might fancy it, I'll keep it safe.

Thanks again and good hunting everyone.

I'm glad you replied BB!  I was waiting to see a photo, but it appears that everyone else except me can see it! Does anyone else know why that should be? I can see pictures on all the other posts!

There's a distinct possibility that I am losing my mind and eyesight but I also see no picture.
