 Hi

Looking for some advice?. I have recently obtained a packet of Tudor (special light) tobacco but can find out nothing about the product. Can anyone help please. Unable to add pictures but can send them to anyone that could perhaps put them on.

Not much dope out there on Dobie.

Found this advert picture which dates to 1955:

If I had to speculate, I'd wager that Tudor Special Light was likely a low-nicotine shag baccy intended for faggy rollups, but have no idea really.

Bought out by Godfrey Philips in 1956 and likely discontinued then, but not sure, what can be said? Purple prose with passioned glimpse back to an era undone. O! Sherlocking with magnifier zoom'd to bloom in on ghost notes floating ethereal, the smoke no more flowing.

Famously,

4Sq.

 Hi Munsterlander3,

George Dobie was founded by William Dobie in 1809 manufacturing snuff and brown twist tobacco which were the staple products of those times. In 1832 was joined by his nephew, George, who subsequently acquired the business'. His only son William Fraser Dobie joined the firm as a partner in 1888 when the firm became George Dobie & Son. William Dobie passed away in 1910 and his son developed the business by taking advantage of the latest technical developments which resulted in a variety of products and expanding the business. Took over the firm J & F Bell of Glasgow and also T Hodge of Glasgow which was also based in  Kentucky.. The firm was converted into a private limited company in 1929. Mr William Fraser Dobie became chairman until his death in 1930. "Best Roll" tobacco and the success of the "Four Square" brand were the firms most popular products..

Have not seen a reference to your "Tudor" brand, but would agree with philofumo. Have attached advertisement from 1930, showing some of the brands.

bacco

(ps) Can someone turn the picture round please. Still have not mastered it.
