Tea Tins

I have been collecting them for over 25 years now and still feel the need to find fresh examples . Here is an early 12lb Uneeda Tea tin found in Australia .

A stunning  and appealing tin with striking graphics c1920's

I would like to see similar examples . Must be other tea collectors out there.

Hi Relics

Haven't heard from you in a while but I have a feeling you are out there. Now that the summer is ending for you and you are approaching the wildness of an Australian winter (haha) perhaps you could post some of your tins and things. I know you have some amazing stuff and I for one appreciate your postings.

I only have this one tea tin on file and a few others that needed cleaned up before I post them, so this will have to do for now.

Thanks Batleycarr1

I sometimes wonder if there is any interest in non British, non signage advertising on the site but surely there must be a few collector's who appreciate old advertising for it's content and not for where the manufacturer was located.

Anyhow, here's a Tetley tin that I have had for a long time. I have always liked the bright, clean graphics on this one.

Hey Vlad,

This is an international site, so in my mind all images from all countries are appreciated.

On the understanding that this is a multifaceted forum, trying to appeal to all levels of collectors (in several different fields) It's gonna take time to build a good & responsive audience.  I for one, appreciate all your effort & postings.

I believe there are loads of tin collectors out there who haven't yet found there way here.

Of course the faulty forums of past & new forums have taken their toll, but I think it's slowly gaining speed again..

cheers

Hi Rusty

Thanks for your input. You are right when you say things were knocked for a loop with the recent site meltdown and it will take time to get back to normal. On the other hand there is the saying that goes "no time like the present".

I don't want anyone to think I am fishing for compliments on my postings or items. I have been collecting long enough to know that I have some decent stuff but a large part of my collecting is obtaining items that I find interesting or unique. Others might find my collection run of the mill and that is okay. (just don't tell me that)

That being said, I do wish there was a little more participation. Some of the most seemingly mundane things can be of the greatest interest. One of my favourite postings was of a bottle dig. The crater size hole these guys were standing in blew my mind and I envied the fact that they had found all those wonderful things in the dirt. I really respected the madness that has people moving tons of earth to find an old bottle or a broken piece of pottery.

Even the casual snapshots of tables of "stuff" at one show or another is fascinating to someone like me who lives in a place where shows with good advertising antiques are few and far between.

This site has brought me many hours of enjoyment and I hope to see it flourish once again. Sites like this can help keep our hobby alive by attracting new collectors. The antique business has taken a big hit in the past few years and I for one would like to be a part of ensuring that our part of the market stays viable. Besides, I have a cellar full of items that one day will need to be sold off. I have managed to maintain some household bliss by telling my wife that these items will one day buy us a nice retirement home and I am hoping with the rest of the AA membership we can do our part to keep the interest going. If not, I am quite literaly screwed.

HI Vlad

Rusty is right we have been here before. This site is British based but open to all and watched by all & sundry. The meltdown has not helped big time, but people will come back slowly.

I find all the post interesting so keep going & posting

Well , you've thrown a spanner in the works now Vlad .
I was surprised to see this thread resurrected .

It is sometimes surprising to see no reaction  or interaction after posting  what you believe to be interesting items .

Yes , we are only beginning with the new site and I'm sure it will  grow and surpass the old sites popularity in time, but the same thing used to happen on the old site occasionally .

What you or I see as an appealing and desirable example of early advertising is what makes us unique as collectors . I have bought tins , signs , showcards etc from other collectors over the years for what I believed to be a bargain price simply because the item was not  as appealing to the seller as it was to me .

Yes , we are almost to our Australian winter  .  Long pants and socks again . Lovely Autumn day today  . Have just returned from a 25km Mountain bike ride in the mountains near home  . I'll sleep well tonight.

Like your Eduscho tin Vlad . Wonderful images and colours . I have two of them in different colour variations to yours . We might have covered this on the old site, but I'll post them on here tomorrow. I also have a giant 12lb version of the Tetleys Tea tin with the Sunflowers

I've not been posting much recently . Been busy building a shed to house and display my collection, so that has taken up most of my time ( and money ) . I've photographed the progression , so it might make an interesting thread when the time comes ( If anyone is interested ).

Goodonya Vlad . Your enthusiam is infectious . We are so lucky to be able to log on at 2am with a glass of wine and see what someone on the other side of the world has found at a car boot sale  or paid a fortune for at a fair because thay just wanted it . I'll take the time to take a few pics and post over the next couple of days .

Here are another two variations of  the  Eduscho tea  tin . An early German made tin with fabulous graphics, and we know that there were at least three colour variations produced

Let me know if you ever decide to part with yours Vlad

Thanks for the feedback guys. It's good to hear what other's think. I live right next to the biggest city in Canada but it is a bit of a wasteland when it comes to this branch of collecting. Because of that, the AA site is my only connection to advertising collecting and I apologize if at times I seem a little overly enthusiastic. On the other hand, better to be enthusiastic than indifferent.

Hey Relics. Great to see the other Eduscho tins. I presently have my one on a bookcase that holds some of my favourites so I am in no hurry to part with it, but if I did would you be interested in trading? I remember you posting a lot of very nice tea tins on the old forum. Any doubles in good shape?

Anyhow, heres an image from the side of a Canadian tea tin that has a definite British connection with the flag of St. George and the knight.

Hi Vlad,

I agree with Rusty - Lummox and Relics and understand how you feel. However, as one who does a few postings myself in my paticular field, I some times wonder if anyone is reading the postings. The interuption with the development of the new site has not helped but also feel that in time the interaction will return. The more feedback I get, encourages me to do further postings. You have done some amazing posts, and I for one appreciate the content. Keep it up.
