Hi Henk,
You are quite correct with the brand name "Mick McQuaid" and it's a very nice sign. However, the manufacturer was P.J.Carroll Co Ltd, founded in 1824 and based in Dundalk, Ireland. The brand "Mick McQuaid" pipe tobacco was introduced in 1888. The name originates from a novel "Mick McQuaid" by a Col Lynham and serialized in a popular magazine of the time called "Shamrock" in which Mick is constantly referring to CARROLL's tobacco brands. This brand is still available today after 122 years approx.
This is an ideal opportuinty to view member's showcards-signs-tins etc of the firm P.J.Carroll.

I have shown this figure before but it is well worth showing again. Never come across another, so I think it is quite rare! Also, I have shown one of their most popular and colourful tins. Still seems to be plenty of these about.

Here's a showcard for the company. I've posted this before but I'm sure there must be plenty who haven't seen it and it fits nicely with this thread. |

Hi collector,
That is a super showcard and well worth showing again.
I have posted this one before as well. It is a tin Carroll's "Premier Target" sign which again is quite unusual.

3" x 2" x 1"
It also comes as a 2 colour version.

Nice one Nomad2 & hilbert.
This is my Carroll's "Chewing Tobacco" showcard which is a fairly early one. The Irish loved their chewing tobacco. Don't fancy it myself!
