 Gawith Hoggarth & Co bought back Samuel Gawith in 2015. 

The company was originally all one under Samuel Gawith (1st as he is known) and operated from Lowther Street. Following his death, his two sons, Samuel and John Edward went into partnership for around 10 years. The partnership was then dissolved and Samuel Gawith (2nd) went off on his own and John E Gawith stayed at Lowther Street. Samuel Gawith (2nd) moved to a mill at Meal Bank on the edge of Kendal and later a factory on Sandes Avenue in Kendal and the Brown house, as well as acquiring a mill near Penrith. Eventually everything was consolidated at the Brown House and it went out of the immediate family. It is now a printing works. 

Tobacco production continued at Lowther Street under John E Gawith, then after he went bankrupt for a short while Samuel Gawith 2nd used the premises again (it was still a family home as well) and then another brother, William Edward went into partnership with his neighbour and friend, Henry Hoggarth and Gawith Hoggarth & Co started. Gawith Hoggarth operated from Lowther Street until the early 2000's when we moved to a new premises on the edge of Kendal, where we still are.

The old factory at Lowther Street is undergoing renovations to be a small museum and shop. The council are supporting the venture.
