Hi Alex,

Liz from Australia,

Would be greatful if you could shed some light on this sign?

I have a sign here with Two Seas Flake Cut on it, and in the centre is a great big red faux crystal. I have researched and can find nothing; I have enclosed a photo for you. It is about A5  is size.

Kind regards

Liz

Hi Liz,

Have looked up your "Two Seas" Flake Cut and the only reference I can find of this brand  is in the 1940 Tobacco Trade Almanac. It is registered under (BAT) British American Tobacco-Rowatt &Lyon. BAT was set up in1902 for the purpose of exporting British and American brands of tobacco. Rowatt & Lyon, I assume were Tobacco Wholesalers, although have not been able to trace them up to now. I would say that your "Two Seas" was produced specifically for export although not sure who manufactured it unless someone come up with a sample packet or tin. I would say your sign is about 1905 circa. Hope that helps.

Tis is what I said..

Hi there looks pre 1900 - maybe 1890. Looks home made probably for a tobacconist selling on tobacco under their own brand.

Looks like it would have been in a frame unless there are hanging loops in the back.
