This "Guardsman" cigarette was manufactured by R J Elliot & Co, is the first I have come across of this company. This company first started manufacturing tobacco in 1860 and were still active in 1937. They were  based at Pack Horse Yard and King St, Huddersfield. Their speciality were cigars and in particular popular brands such as "Bulldog"-"Du Barry"-"Pack Horse Regalia" etc etc.  In 1895 they had 150 employees working  there, so quite a considerable business and I'm surprised I have not come acoss more of their goods. Does anyone have items from this company tp show.

That's a lovely design. Don't remember seeing anything by Eliot & Co before. You come up with some pretty obscure stuff.

 Have not been able to trace this company as yet as there are so many African companies. However, this "Melba" brand tin  is registered to cigarette manufacturer "Elliott's" a firm which I posted detail about some time ago. I wonder if they manufactured cigarettes under licence on behalf of the African Cigarette Co Ltd ??? Anyone come across this company???
