 Hi,

I've been following this excellent forum for a few months now and have found it both absorbing and educational. Having ventured into GB Tobacco and Cigarette tins to supplement my collection of American Square Cornered tobacco tins I now have a few tins that I would like to know more about. First up is this Flower of Egypt Cigarette tin. I know nothing more than Al's description of "Flower of Egypt - Thackery". Any other info and indeed a decent photo of better one would be greatly appreciated.

 Hi Bevand,

Welcome to the forum. My records show that this brand "Flower of Egypt"  was produced for Badman Bros tbnst-3, Snow Hill - Birmingham 1911-15. "Castleroy" was another of their brands. Not a firm I have come across before. I will see if I can find a better image.

 Hi Bevand,

Sorry, I am unable to find an image of your "Flower of Egypt" tin. I would think that it is quite a rare tin and if you could find one in better condition, it would be a bonus.

 Hi Bevand,

Not sure if your still in touch with the "Forum" as I had not seen any posts from you. Anyway, better late than never as I have just purchased one of the "Flower of Egypt" tins with paper label slightly cleaner than yours. As previously said, it was registered between 1908--1912 by Badman Bros, who were cigar importers and also manufactured cigarettes by hand..  They had a tobacconist shop at 3, Snow Hill, Birmingham from about 1880 up to 1922. On the front at the bottom is a quote from "Anthony & Cleopatra"-- Act V--Scene 11  "As sweet as balm--as soft as air". (Have never seen cigarettes descrbed as such) They also have quotes on the back from The Connoisseur and W M Thackery. Most certainly produced by hand ,for the more important client. I wonder what they sold for????
