Bit off topic I know, but thought they might interest someone.

I used to collect these. Sold them all a couple of years ago.

 nice collection, is that a churchill one second row in center ?.

Ossie, yeah and it's not a bad likeness. I think the 2 top left are supposed to be churchill too, but only vaguely resemble him. They both have wind up music boxes in their hats.

What are they made of  ?

As Lummox says, they're wood with cork on the bottom obviously.

In case it's not clear from the pic. A lot of them are articulated, with nodding heads, clacking mouths, moving arms that raise hats or bottles to the mouth. The ballarina lifts her skirt and show lacey nickers. Some of them have pourers, often in their opening mouths.

I believe they are mostly from Italy.
