Here is another with a message from Mike.

Can anyone help?

Al.

'Here's one more Al which is certainly the best period enamel sign
image I have in my collection.
Amazingly it shows Shell, Mobiloil, Pratts, BP & Dunlop, (amongst
others), all in the same photograph.
The picture was taken in Cornwall, as I understand it, circa 1920's.
If you can identify the make of car and motorcycle I'd be pleased to
hear from you ?
Maybe you can confirm that it IS 1920's too ?
Thanks.
Mike'

Flat tank motorbike, maybe a bull nose morris? Certainly 20's.

Victorian father has that shell pump and globe. The pump came from a giant garage in Bristol that had a 4 piece Pratt's strip enamel right across the doors. We used the chassis off an old caravan to tow it back. Heavy thing!!!

a month or so ago i saw a reconditioned BP petrol pump, we started talking to a bloke in the pub about signs etc, and beofre long he took us too his garage to let us have a look, it had a sheild shaped enamel at the top and it was operated by vaccume, you had to pull and push a rod back wards and forwards so it must have been early. i would have taken a picture but i didnt really want to ask him if i could.

those pics are pure ad porn btw thankyou : )

Hi Mike,

Long time no speak, I havent seen you since you came over to pick-up the Shell sign, I hope alls good with you. Brilliant photos that second one is chock full of goodies ( Im slipping into a "Goodnight Sweetheart" fantasy as I look at it !! ).

I maybe able to help on the dating of the second photo, The car is carrying a "TT" registration number, that configuration was issued by  the County Council of Devon & was used from June 1924 to October 1926, when they started using the letters UO. So from looking at the car , which looks like its not on its first outing up a muddy road, then I would put it at about 1926/27, shame I cant make out the reg number on the motor bike in the first photo, might be able to shed a bit of light on that one .

I have added a couple of photos of what I think I can see two thirds of the way up the Shell pump on the left hand side. If anyone wants to make me an offer for it, then it could be for sale. PS, not to sure how that works on here, can you send me a private E-mail , through my user name?, or leave a contact  E-Mail address on this thread, that I can respond to.

Anyhow Mike, great photos.  NOMAD

Hey up. People can email you using the envelope icon under the user name on the left hand side of your post.

The sign looks awfully shiney. Do you have a history with it?

Cheers

Al.

Hi There, Thanks for the info on receiving E-Mails.

This price holder was one of a number of motoring relaited items I bought from an old chap who was thinning out this collection , most of the other stuff has gone now but I held on to this for a bit because I liked having it about.

Yep its shiney, because the metal has been polished & the areas that would have originally been painted have been re-painted, this restoration was done before I bought it.   NOMAD
