I see the enamel guys moaning about repros. These, I think, are even more obvious, so I thought I'd get in on the act.

So many examples of the repro Players Navy Cut tins on ebay and a lot of them sell better than the real thing. Often advertised as vintage, original or 1930's.

I've seem them go for £15 to £30.

There are two it seems, the replicans one and an even worse looking version.

A newbie collector might miss the rounded edge of the lid and think they've bagged a minty? Tell me if I'm wrong, but tin collectors don't have to face the risk of repros that much, do they? And normally, they are obvious to spot. I get frustrated more by these modern iterations of a vintage tin; Round Up, Sporting, My Ladies and the like. And the Dodo stuff. Think you've found a long-lost mega tin until closer inspection!!

Yes the tins are pretty obvious, but then I guess they've not been made to fool anyone, where the enamels often clearly are. But still a lot of people are presumably being fooled.

I just had a conversation with someone who bought one of these Players, 20 years ago he said, from a dealer who told him it was "an original", so he was convinced it couldn't be a novelty tin.

The Miranda's Dream repro is the one I find most annoying for some reason, it seems to de-value the real tin.
