Just a quickie to let you know that TOOVEYS now charge 29.5% buyers premium plus an astonishing extra 6% for bidding online....bringing your add ons as a buyer online of 35% !!....dont make the mistake of settling with a credit card as that will push it near to 40% !!!!!! ...just thinking of you all !

Then of course you have the cost of postage or shipping if you can't attend

We have got a local collectors auction that happens twice a year. The guy who runs it has kept selling fees at 10 %, because he's smart enough to realize it's no point sending sellers elsewhere, by pricing the auction out of the market. Buyers premium is at 16.5 % for these auctions, I would think that 26.5 % for each lot is still fair for them.

I made much the same comments about Tooyey's exhorbitant commisions on 15 March. At that time I posted:

"There is a sale at Tooveys on 24 March which includes an interesting enamel or two. But more interesting than the sign itself is the buyer's commission, now 29.4% (incl VAT). PLUS, if you bid online, the additional charge is 5% (plus VAT) i.e. 6%, making a total of 35.4%. I thought there must be an error so I rang Tooveys to confirm and they told me that The Saleroom addition is still 3% (+ VAT) but they have decided to increase it by 2% as there is "extra work involved"!

The great sadness of course with these rates of commission is that the vendor who probably gets 15% sellers fees is actually loosing around 50% of the final price paid for by the buyer....so if a buyer pays a total Inc fees of 1000 then the vendor eventually gets 500 out of it...makes your ebay seller fees seem very reasonable indeed considering you have control of the description and can access a worldwide viewing for a mere 14%. inc paypal
