Couldn't agree with you any more there Steve. Not many people in his position/wealth would muck in and chat to anyone like he did. As far as I know the open days are still running this year

This really is very sad news. He was very down to earth and it was a pleasure to talk to him about signs and railways. For someone who was willing to open up his own private grounds for us all to enjoy his marvelous collection at will was very much appreciated. It was quite incredible how much knowledge of our subject he had. I'm afraid Fawley Hill won't be the same again.

Had the privilege (and pleasure) of visiting last year and saw Sir Bill, a very down to earth 'Sir' who amassed a great collection to be shared with the people. I echo the comments above about keeping the open days going, I hope they do in his name.

There is going to be a memorial celebration at Fawley Hill in April /May , dates to be confirmed later.

I didn't have the pleasure to chat with him but I'm sure he was a down to earth top bloke. RIP Sir William Thanks for allowing us all to come and visit the museum, enjoy the train ride and merry go round along with everything else. Hope the open days continue, such a great day out.

For those of you who might be interested there is a memorial service at the museum on Sunday 13th May @ 2pm , you can arrive from midday onwards.
