Having a dog called Hudson means you are duty bound to root out a real cast iron Hudsons Soap  " Drink puppy Drink " bowl if you can find one amongst the hundreds of Repro's

thanx to forum member Rob Mason for finding me one. Well rusted with some lettering gone I did a reasonable job with a dremel and a paintbrush.... well anyway the dog and the missus seemed pleased !

Got to Elsecar and spied a really good condition one in a cabinet in the antique centre. Fortunately it was another friend Alan Key, so I got a good deal. It was'nt until I got them home and put them together when my neighbour commented " They are different "

Well bu**er me , so they are ! to BUY or to USE that is the question ? but knowing Hudsons the real question is how many different varities actually are there ?

..... bit late Mick, round these parts you see literally 100's of these repro'd every year. There are 1000's in the States as well so don't worry they will be crossing the Canadian border soon !! LOL

Well !! Spence not a silly question at all >>>>> The answer is I think so, but can't find any white paint residue on the ' buy ' version yet the lettering is really sharp so who actually knows. Another item where we need a Time Machine to actually get to the bottom of !

cheers lummox

Ross just clocked the 2 Hudsons tins with the dogs on and the bowls have a white backing to them both..So that answers my question..Yes they were painted when produced

here is a real genuine Hudson Soap cast iron dog bowl fully correct as they appeared.

The white enamel fills the whole bowl and pediment.

Hi Brian

Very interesting, do you think they were all that colourway though !! I know the enamel versions were green and red but nearly all the cast real ones i've seen kave only been white and black and some seemed to be with original paint,

cheers lummox
