This "Rosebud" brand of cigarettes, was manufactured by T. Brankston & Co of 69-71 & 73, Carter Lane, London. E C. This company was founded about 1758, specialising in tobacco and cigar manufacturing. In 1904, it was taken over by Adkin & Sons a branch of the Imperial Tobacco Co, I would date this brand to the late 1890s. It is not in the best of condition as the leaves around the top have lost there gold colour but I have never come across this brand before. Two other firms did a "Rosebud",  Cope Bros and E & W Anstie. Do any forum members have any other Brankston brands, such as "Aristocrat"-"Sweet As The Rose"-"Golf Club" amd "Rose Birdseye" etc etc.

This is the other Brankston tin containing the original 25 cigarettes. Notice the "Rose" on both tins as trademark.

This is a Brankston's "Golden" Navy Cut tin and advert in 1898 Tobacco News. Notice the address on bottom of the early tins. (Doctor's Commons)

 Hi hilbert,

Glad you like the Golf tin but not for sale at the moment but will note your interest should I move it on.

This is an addition to the posting in 2018. Purchased this "Brankston" tin recently and have just traced  the  Golden Flake brand to 1897 Singleton & Cole  Manufacturer's Brands Catalogue. You don't see many items from this firm and the tin is in excellent condition.

I notice going through the archives how many contributers have fallen off the site or no longer contribute???????

 Nice!

I don't know much about ciggie tins but that's a good looker indeed.

Was the 12 size common or is that unusual?

Thanks for updating this thread with a recent find, you're very good about building threads chockful of good stuff and your work has been invalubale to me over the years, and often posting singular rare examples not seen elsewhere...

...so thank you.

I still read/visit here every now and then but rarely post anything --- I'm not actually a collector, but more an active smoker who is also a history buff (still deeply saddened by the collapse of the UK tobacco industry) and just like to see rare birds from the gud auld days.
