Have decided to sell my Dexter's "Key West" enamel cigar sign which is on ebay (26399252385) as one of the members on this site indicated an interest some while back.

It is a nice early sign.

I saw it was on ebay! I got it off a shop in Sheffield, some 40 years ago! It was covered in bitumen paint, and I was surprised at what I'd got when I cleaned it up! I sold it a good few years ago, and always regretted it!

 Hi signseeker,

I've had it for about 30 yrs and have not seen another. I may regret selling also, and won't worry if it does not sell. Have posted and advertisement from the 1905 publication of Tobacco for "Key West " cigars.

(Can someone turn it around please)

Thanks Bacco. There was a second alongside this one, which I gave to a friend! I got four signs together from the recessed doorway of an old tobacconist's. There was an excellent 8' tall framed St.Bruno, with the two Dexter''s side by side below it, and a framed St.Julien on the other side of the door. I left the one on the shop-front as it was just too big for me. (Something like Pigtail, I believe?) All were painted over! (£10 well spent I thought!) I remember dragging them back from one side of Sheffield to the other in the snow!

Please do send me an e-mail at britishenamels@gmail.com  It would be good to be in touch

Yep! Letting signs go that have a story behind them can be a big mistake. There are two or three that I got off shop walls that I'd love to get back again!

 Hi David,

Sorry! after checking, I had missed out a number. However, I was very pleased to find that the buyer "Dexter" Eaton, the grandson of the late John Eaton had tried to buy it from me some years earlier. John was a very nice guy with a super collection of enamels etc etc, so I am glad his grandson has puchased it and become a collector himself.

 Thanks Bacco,

A relative in my family has recently given birth to a son who they have named Dexter

If anyone else sees a similar for sale, drop me a line please, I am happy to pay the right money for the same reason.
