Amazing sale last week. Sold for 48,090 Euros (including fees)

And British collectors sneer at continental enamels !

Your post seems to suggest the only thing worth being interested in about enamel signs is how much they sell for.

Hmm. Well that's a bit different. That's going to divide opinion no doubt. Does seem a tad on the expensive side but who knows anything these days concerning prices. I actually find it a bit creepy , but only my opinion , no offence intended.

Not at all, all I have done is highlight how good continental enamels are. The price is only important to the seller after all. Maybe I did not post this in the right way ? I am sorry to have been mis-understood.

Fred, you highlight an interesting point. which I am sure will add to the debate. Speaking for myself I have never liked continental enamel signs. OK I know many have strong colourful imagery and some like the one shown above are spectacular but I am afraid I just don't warm to them like I do British signs - perhaps its nostalgia colouring my view. I can see from the pictures taken at European auctions that the hobby is perhaps larger there than here and perhaps the prices reflect this.

The sign does nothing for me at all..it looks new and it looks cheap as do All the other overseas enamels that folk go mad over..Each to their own..British enamels are Best..Far more superior to anything else that the rest of the world knock out..

Some classic signs there, Brian. I think you've won the argument . You just can't buy stuff like that now . Marvellous , and thanks for showing.

Yes wonderful signs F.B.These sort of enamels just knock the bollox out of overseas made signs in my eyes..It would be nice to see some of The big hitters in the game show off on here some of their un posted British made enamels..

Yeeeaaahhhhhh. Lets keep out all the foreigners out with all there shitty signs. Bleeeehhhhh to all the continental and overseas signs. Pure shit if you ask me. Why bother collecting stuff that's not BRITISH MADE. I say we Brexit them out of this Forum right now!!

Oh dear oh dear. What a world we have become.

regards from a shitty collector with shitty signs :-(

PS I love all the signs from all over the world. Even the one's that are British made.

I don't think it's a xenophobic issue. I'm pretty sure it's not for me anyway.
There is just a tendency for continental enamel signs to have a different quality to them that's hard to define. I think a lot of continental signs are much more sophisticated in their designs than British signs; but paradoxically this makes them less appealing to me. There's often something primitive and almost grotesque about old British signs which I find fascinating - weird lettering and odd illustrations.
