DAILY TELEGRAPH
TO;- THE CHIEF EDITOR. DAILY TELEGRAPH. LONDON 22nd October 2010
Dear Editor, Dear Sir,
JUST HOW TO APPROACH YOU !!! ????
Many years ago 1960 ....1966/67 the DAILY TELGRAPH then produced a weekly article in your columns regularly on a Wednesday, written by your ART Critic of the day.
During that period, a Rare painting, torn from a Chocolate box was discovered, I believe of a
Landscape, and proven to be authentic. Although this painting was un-signed , it was able to be traced as such few Artists were employed by the Chocolate Box company to be able to do this work.
The painting was eventually SOLD for a record figure, of that day, by SOTHERBY's or CHRISTIES,... I believe, of £26,000, twentysix thousand pounds..........Still so clear in my mind.
Your Newspaper, The DAILY TELEGRAGH, produced, at that time, still in the ART column
a photo of this painting and to show how small the painting was, it was placed on the seat of a kitchen chair. My memory is still vivid.
Some years later, in 1966/67. I travelled abroad with my late husband and whilst abroad, my own Mother had discovered a similar Chocolate box with a painting, in my possessions that I had... at that time, recently purchased, before I left England.
See accompanied letter enclosed. (Copy).......
I had, over the past years, written letters to your Newspaper and other sources in an effort to discover and have my painting authenticated, Copies of letters enclosed..... but in vain.
The DAILY TELEGRAPH had informed me at that time that Newspapers from those days were then in Micro filch form and at that time I did not realize or know, all that that meant.
As a Silver Surfer now, I have never been able to research this information that I am confiding in you and sincerely hope, that as your Newspaper would have Researchers at your disposal, that you would be able to trace this information.
After all these years I have re-discovered the painting, which I believe to be that of
MADAME FRY herself, of the original FRY CHOCOLATE BOX Company.
The olde painting is 7 inches X 10 inches and in its original condition, I have not had it cleaned.
It is painted on a ROWNEY & FORSTER, Flemish Ground Milled Board.
Their address on the board :- 51, Rathbone Place, LONDON ,
I feel sure and certain, that my painting, once authenticated would, should be worth a fortune, the same as the above mentioned Landscape painting.
I so sincerely hope you will HELP and assist me and NOT turn me down. It would be a 'scoop '
for your Newspaper.
I am a genuine enquirer, NOT a mad ole Biddy.
Check me, my name, IRENE STRANGE on line. A Southsea Town Councillor for the past eight years, etc.
Yours in anticipation,
Irene
