Brian, Here is the same sign with the correct description. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Garnier-1970s-Frys-Pure-Breakfast-Cocoa-Enamel-Metal-Sign-21-x-14/183724061633?hash=item2ac6ceb3c1:g:xpYAAOSwDX5cBwWf

Take no notice of the price, it’s worth what TT says.

Thank you Planesman for the info, the weight and shelving of enamel didnt seem right for a ''20s'' sign. Glad i went with gut feeling!!

Brian

Its very easy to be caught out by repros these days if your not an experienced collector. The back of a sign is always a good indication. Originals have distinctive backs usually with some wash and residue from the enamel splashed around. They were never made to be perfect. Sometimes there are also areas of rust or rust specks. This reverse shows how an original looks. Many of the repros are also made on slightly thinner metal.

I remember the days when you could pull em out of hedgerows... always great fun flipping them over to see what they were. Some were flipping awful!

I like the backs of old signs very much.
They look like abstract expressionist paintings.

What’s the front view Fred? Same as Hinks, I like the backs of signs - they can sometimes be more interesting than the front.
