<!--[if gte mso 9]> Normal 0 21 false false false NL X-NONE X-NONE Banjo Boy:

Langcat,,just a little question..on alot of overseas signs there seems to be an extra point of fixing..i.e little bits added to the corners of Some signs..whats the reason for this? To be honest its a good idea as when the sign is fixed to whatever is attatched to,,it dont mess with the main sign..

That is exactly the reason for these “ears”. Patented by Langcat Bussum in Holland.

Convex: That stands for the period they were made in. Mostly up to the late 30-ties.

Planesman:

Henk, is the Abdulla sign British? I love it.

It’s made in Germany for the Dutch market. Only 1 known !!!. It’s a big sign. About 100x60 cm.

Hilbert:

The Verkade is gorgeous. I'd love that hanging in my garden. How much would a good one of those cost langcat?

It’s a rare piece and very expensive ;-) Not something you put in the garden !

I knew an old boy who worked for Player's Publicity Dept. He always took great pleasure in telling me how they used to load lorries full old returned signs abd take them to Lenton landfill tip (now a retail/Industrial park). He also said that enamel signs were bolted down on the roof of No.1 Factory (Beckenham Rd, Radford) where they were tested and monitored for weathering/fading etc. I wonder if any are still there?

My uncle used to drive the famous Player's ship built on a lorry chassis to attend shows and carnivals for publicity.

Beautiful colours on that Gilbert Rae sign.
I never cease to be amazed by the craftsmanship of old signs and the amount of work that must have gone into them.
