I've just acquired a PRINCESS of WALES Cigarette Tin. Issued by SNELLING & Co. London. What I don't know is the Date. What I want to know is - Is it PRINCESS MARY (Mrs to George V) or Is it PRINCESS ALEXANDRA (Mrs to Edward VII) Does anyone know when the manufacturer, SNELLING & Co. London were producing their cigarettes. This might give a clue as to which Princess of Wales it is.

The trouble is... the 2 of them always look so similar when illustrated. Hopefully the Snelling & Co, years of production, will hopefully give a potential date of manufacture and thus, which Princess it is.

Yeah I know what you mean but it's odd as they do look quite different in photographs. Bacco will likely have some info but my money is on Alexandra.

Hi Talltinman, it could only be Princess Alexandra of Denmark who assumed the title when she married Albert Edward - Prince of Wales in 1863. His accession to the throne was 22/01/1901. I found an advert for the brand taken from the Tobacco Trade Year Book of 1894. Hope that helps. Nice tin.

That's Excellent - I was hoping it was Alexandra and it's now confirmed.
Thanks everyone for your assistance
