 Hi fingerplate,

Some very nice boxes. These were normally quite plain on the outside but were meant to sit on the counter with lid open to attract customer interest and sold by weight or used to top up a companies cigarette cabinet with branded names on the glass draws. Most of your brands were first introduced in 1897. I have posted a couple more illustrated in the Singleton & Cole 1911 trade magazine sadly only in black & white. Also, a couple of boxes containing brand packets. Cindrella brand was first introduced in 1888 and withdrawn in 1940. Derby brand were first introduced in 1921 and withdrawn in 1939

Reference counter selling tobacco and cigarette boxes. I wandered  whether this tin was for the counter. .24 cm wide ,10 cm deep.. packets of 10.and 500 strength cigarettes ? that could be 50 packets inside if 500 refers to the number of cigarettes inside..Any help on the age of the tin appreciated

 Hi Kennett,

Most certainly a very good condition counter-tin containing 50 packs of 10 cigarettes. You have to take into account that cigarettes were very small and this particular brand were more up market but such an attractive tin would catch customer attention. There were 2 "Carriage" brands intoduced by Godfrey Philps company in 1900, yours and one recorded as "Carriage Drive". What the difference was I do not know.
