Picked up this nice "Blue Stocking" -Perique Mixture Tobacco tin from the company A.Baker & Co Ltd of Holloway Rd London N7. Founded in 1898 but moved mainly into the Retail Trade. Factory closed in 1921 and business taken over by ITC. Perique tobacco has a very particular flavour and strength and is only produced in the centre part of Louisiana and the way it is grown and processed makes it unique. When Perique is ready, it is black, dense, heavy, very strong with a distinctive aroma. It is mainly used for pipe smoking, a little chewing, some snuff and sometimes cigarettes. It seems a bit unusual to give it a brand name of "Blue Stocking"  which I assume is named after the "Blue Stocking Society" which was an informal group of privileged womens social and educational movement in England in mid 18th century?????
