A little battered, but a rare survivor considering this old cardboard advertising sign from Webster & Milton the confectioners & tobacconists in Church Street Gravesend was simply mounted in it's original frame without glass, which was the way it was made. A bit non-PC with the dog having a puff ! Many thanks to the local history groups for the photos, otherwise I would never have known where the premises were or what they looked like. The last image shows the building before it was demolished.

Interesting to know what the street looks like now, or has it been bulldozed into oblivion to make way for modern housing etc!

 Hi John,

Nice "British Oak" shag avertising and unusual to have it personalised with agents details. It is also nice to see their trading premises before demolition. The brand was introduced in 1895 and was still available until 1965 a total of 70 yrs. Shows how popular the brand was. I have posted a picture of the counter-tin and enamel for same brand.

Apologies for the delay in replying, had a devil of a job signing back in. Yes, long gone, behind the buildings were some little flint cottages that dated to the late 1700's, The historical society were in the middle of trying to save them when thay were 'accidentally' bulldozed one weekend by the property developer. All he recived was a pathetically low fine. Should have been made to rebuild them, but like many councils back in the 1960's & '70's it was full of corrupt officials. I speak through personal experience.
