Thanks Bacco
I went over to see the Altons material in the Sutton Windmill Museum before it closed - pleased it found a good home (temporarily). The factory was an amazing timewarp still operating until the 1980s, as was another Nottingham firm: Redgate Mineral Waters of Traffic Street. This factory still had all its old machinery in place in the 1980s and could still fill Codd bottles! A mountain of advertising was also stored there including enamels and showcards in mint condition.

 Hi FB,

Staying on the cigar theme, thought it would be useful to post some cigar advertising as it was at one time a very big industry prior to cigarettes. The "Castle Hall" is American, "King Six" is a counter top advert and the "Dexter's" is enamel which I sold last year to the grandson of a well known collector named "Dexter". Anymore cigar adverts out there????

Another few "Cigar"  advertising : "W.D. & H.O. Wills had a big range of cigars. "Bahadurs" by McDowell & Co were also popular as also the "Flor De Belar" which is a tin sign.

Cheers Bacco, great stuff. The Belar's were found at Alton's and were printed by Barringer's at Mansfield. They went as low as a fiver at one point but not so many around now. The tin frame was a standard design and also used for William Younger's signs. Will put a better pic of the High Lights in showcard section.

Here are another couple of cigar advertising: "Canadian Club" and "Emilia Garcia" a big name in cigars which I have had for a long time. "Ivanhoe Cigars" made by W.D.& H.O Wills, which were also very popular.

Continuing with "Cigar" advertising: "Flor De Dindigul" Indian cigars which had a very big following, with "Maestro" , "Manikin", "Marcella" and "Bulldog" cigars, were all very popular at one time.
