HI FB. I was interested to hear you mention the antiques emporium called Hopkinson on Station Road, Nottingham, I lived in Nottingham for 23 yaers until 2006 and I seem to remember there was an amazing old-style ironmongering with that name on Station Road. You could find just about anything there. Unlike B&Q! Nice to see the name was kept. I must rry and visit.

Hi Deegee. Its the best thing that could have happened to the Hopkinson building as it has retained all its atmosphere and not been knocked about. Just a few alterations to comply with safety regs. It could easily have been student apartments or worse - demolished. The basement is still open and has that great smell of an old ironmongers store. Several floors now open upstairs. Splendid cafe/bar on the ground floor frequented by those using the train station as it has a train arrival and departure screen. Its a very eclectic mix of stock. Nothing else like it left in Nottingham - Derby Road and Mansfield Rd sadly now void of all those vintage emporiums. Saturday's are a good time to visit as there is the Cattle Market Auctions (Arthur Johnson) nearby. FB

Runway Monday: Everyone must keep 2m apart and you can't touch anything unless you buy it. sounds like fun... Anyone risking it? Selling or buying?

Thanks FB for the further description of Hopkinsons. Yes, great that it was converted to an antiques centre. Even in the 90s when it was an ironmongery it was like going back in time to shop there. I recall on more than one occasion being taken upstairs to find something out of the ordinary. I will certainly have to visit when we get a bit more back to normal. I also remember the antiques shops on Derby Road. Some high quality stuff. I still have several things purchased from there. I only wish I had gotten into enamel signs back in those days when they were cheap. Most of the the things I collected then have lost money!!!

Stalls flowed everywhere and the 2 different queue times saw long lines of folk. Interesting to hear how folks went on - 2 reported lots of overpriced middle of the road stock - but maybe they missed all the bargains?
