Madhouse is all I can say… felt sorry for the staff.

Apparently, the main carpark was already completely full at 5am with buyers. Had to go right down to the overflow carpark at 6am and then wait in line – one in one out control. The M3 round-a-bout was also snarled up because of Kempton – never seen anything like this before ever.

Who knows if there were any gems as by the time they let me in things were quite thin on the ground. Think I’ll wait until the dark, cold autumn returns to venture back again.

Did they have the inside stalls or are they sticking to just outside ?

ALL inside areas where closed and empty.

The outside areas, around and in front of the main Grandstand building were also empty.

Hopefully today was a one-off and now that people have had their 'fix' things will become more normal again.

Just in case though, I would aim to get there a lot more early and join the social-distancing que.

We are rapidly getting back to where we were at the start of the pandemic. Responsibility for personal safety is being placed back on 'the people' so its all down to individual choice. The hand washing message has almost gone out of the window now so there's still danger out there. Also mask wearing is only optional which doesn't help at large gatherings of people. Those that venture out to fairs at present are taking huge risks. We need a vaccine to be certain of safety. Soon be time for flu jabs folks.

Sorry I must have been at a different fair as i got there at 6.20 parked up and genuinely walked virtually straight in. New stuff was thin on the ground, but I went really to see friends I had'nt seen for over 10 weeks and see what was happening. Later Phoneguy was right , it was difficult for people turning up. The organisers were given a finite number of people by Kempton race course I believe 500. So once that number were in people had to queque up basically on a one out one in basis. Some people around 8 ish waited over 1 hour to get in !!

Not often I disagree with Brian, but outside in the fresh air , and being sensible it is pretty " safe " . also most experts agree that wearing a mask protects the wearer from passing it on to a minimal degree. if they have the virus not getting it , and also not proven to a decent percentage of relevance. ( You see some people in there own car , windows up, on their own wearing a mask ) . Non clinical specialist masks are more a confidence giving thing than doing much good. Also people wear gloves and think its then ok to touch there face DOH whats the point !!

Certainly safer than going to a Supermarket, Pub etc etc. Funny thing was the fair was as full as ever of " yummy Mummies " buying shabby sh**" etc, never seen so many women who lunch at kempton in their Laura ashley prints. It certainly was'nt ideal but its all got to start somewhere

Appreciate the comments Ross. Its difficult to know what to do really to be 100% safe. You only have to be in the wrong place at the wrong time to get infected. I would still feel safer with a mask in a large crowd. Up here we have Lincoln and Newark next month and Shepton Flea is back on. Like you say we have to start somewhere. I'm still looking at those daily death rates from CV. Will we ever get to 'zero'?????????????

Just goes to show what a difference just 5 minutes makes.

The Main Entrance was literally just being coned off as a was driving towards it, and had to then go all the way down to the overflow entrance – nightmare…

Yea, as you say Ross it did feel more like one of those decorative salvage events with all of the ‘I saw you coming’ stuff. But good to see some old familiar faces.

I’m sure someone mentioned that on the 27th July there was going to be a lot of enamels on sale there – do tell more.
