This is a early tobacco tin and could be Clarke's of Liverpool 1897-1914 or could be Zicaliotti also of Liverpooi from 1883 both recorded with this brand name.. Have not been able to trace the  "Trade Mark" at the moment. Has any forum member come across it????

(ps) It is a reminder of today's rugby match against Italy and hopefully a better performance than last week.

 Indeed,

Lummox is correct.

Here's an example of one of their more popular brands complete with NZ taglines...

If this museum listing is accurate about the "blokes smoke" advert, then at some point the Dom. company was bought out by Wills...

Kiwi & Ozzie tins are interesting with many keen designs.

Thanks Lummox & philofumo, it just never clicked with me. I checked the records and found the 2 "Rugby" brand names were under cigarettes and not tobacco. (it was still a good result for England)  yesterday.

This "Badminton" brand produced by R &J Hill of Great Eastern St, London EC 2. Founded in 1775, in Shoreditch, London E. (Factory Known as Badminton Tobacco Works). The company operated the following companies: Wood Bros--Leeds--H Archer & Co, London. Strathmore Tobacco Co,  Gold & Co, Birmingham. They started producing cigarettes in 1897 and some of their popular brands included "Sunripe", "Spinet Ovals"  "Front Rank"  "London Idol" and many others.

Interesting Tin, no sign of the game Badmington .....wonder if it relates more to the Badmington estate where   !! Hunting, Shooting & Fishing etc were going on ?

 Hi from New Zealand.

Absolutley correct about the Rugby Tin being  kiwi made by Dominion Tobacco. Wd Wills built a tobacco plant in Petone, Wellington in 1919. In 1956 Rothmans merged with the National Tobacco co in Nelson NZ. Rothmans then merged with Wills in 1999 and became Imperial Tobacco Co and then BAT. The factory closed its doors in 2020.
