Unbelievably there was a smoking room aboard the Hindenburg Airship, along with a tobacconist shop.  This tin was purchased from the onboard tobacconist.  Anyone else seen anything like it?

Well, Looks like a standard Abdulla tin to me with a bit of a postcard stuck on it.....

No offence intended.

Thank for the replies.  I can understand why you say that, and I was a bit dubious at first as well.  But think about the shipping lines in the 30's, the cigarette tins for sale  on the ships at that time were just standard 50 or 100 size tins with a paper label stuck on one corner.  The label on this tin is thin paper and has been on there a long time. Personally, I think it is right, but everyone is welcome to their opinion.

Just as an aside, this isn't my tin, it belongs to my uncle, he bought it in the 1970's from a lady who told him that it was indeed purchased aboard the Hindenburg by a relative of hers.  He kept it in the shed with pins in it apparently.

To me the quality is just not there!! and why would a proud german vessel have London cigarettes and the tin looks slightly later. When you see the quality of Hindenburg China etc, you realise that everything was top notch. Only the super rich would be on board and OMO the cigarette presentation would be miles grander than as Cabs says a tin with a picture stuck on it !!

cheers lummox

Point taken Lummox.  That's exactly why I put it on here, to court opinion.

I have not seen that tin before and tend to agree with Lummox & Cabs as I can't find anything in my records of an Abdulla "Hindenburgh" brand. Abdulla & Co Ltd, founded in 1902 at 112, Commercial St, London E1. The trading address, 173, New Bond St, W1. They were taken over by Godfrey Philips in 1926 and during the manufacturing lifetime of the company, they produced 68 variations/brands of the Abdulla cigarette, all listed in the Tobacco Year Book. They did have a German branch which was liquidated in 1934.
