Hey Gang,
Another recent pickup....must be on a roll, that's 3 in 1 month, you can almost hear a distant drumhead beating.........
Anyway, this is an interesting sign. "Tin Metal" Tucketts signs are common in Canada but the Enameled versions are rare as hens teeth, I've only ever seen a handful. There were almost no enamel sign makers in Canada during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. There were a few that came about after 1900, but enamel signs were only a small portion of their business and all of these signs were simple, generally two colour with basic lettering, few if any pictorials or multi-colours were produced in Canada, so the ones that we find from that era were almost exclusively made abroad, with the majority coming from Britain and some from the US. I have personally seen Patent Enamel Co on some early Canadian signs, although I do not have any like those in my collection.
This particular sign, although no maker's mark, was in my opinion very likely (with almost certainty) produced in the UK for the Canadian market .
It would be nice to have some of the armchair collectors who never post participate, it's getting boring on this site !
Anyways, here it is all cleaned up :)
Hope you enjoy it as much as I do !
