Godfrey Philips Ltd introduced B.D.V cigarettes in the early 1900s and it proved to be a very popular brand and was dropped in 1948. If you have ever wondered what B.D.V stands for, it originated from BOYD & Dibrell Virginia who were the US suppliers of their tobacco although another school of thought as a result of a court case in 1901 a member of the Philips family stated in court that the B.D.V brand was an abbreviation of the Latin words "Benedictus dominus vobiscum" meaning the pipe of peace. As an ex Latin Mass altar-boy, you would have thought that I should have known that!!! Anyway, we have a nice condition tin and card-box plus a tin signs.

Hi Jezmond,
Here is another size B.D.V tin recently purchased.
Just saw this sign and could not immediately identify who it was from.
Short search though to discover, thanks to Bacco!
I had always thought that BDV stood for Best Dark Virginia, so this finding this thread has also educated me further as well.
