We must all regret parting with pieces.from the collection   Here are just a few interesting items of mine that found  I had retained pictures of,  I would welcome them back (at the same price I paid years ago ! .Where are they now???..I have avoided tins..Please add  your unusual past pieces to this thread

The "moon" came from a Long Eaton sweet shop .15 inch diameter..It winds up ,the tongue sticks in and out and eye revolves ..papier mache I was told there originally was advertising around the edge,, Late Victorian Too fragile for me to keep.  sold after one year

The "Johnsons" is a tea safe..too big to keep

Sunlight soap an umberella  shop stand   ..My wife had a greengrocery shop featured by Jack Tempest in an old "Collectors Mart" used for a while  ..(Cadburys also gone)

Imatra tea is a plaster advert normal showcard size,,, never seen anything similar ,On my kitchen wall for 3 years

An orange and a lemon American syrup dispensers .Kept but later decided to stick to British pieces

I don't think I could have parted with the Johnsons Tea safe .
Nor could I have let the Imatra Tea plaster go .
The giant Dunlop showcard is a beauty , as is the umbrella stand and the Pioneer.

Collections are always evolving and never complete , pieces come and pieces go .
Displays once altered can never be the same and all that is left is photographs .

One day all these fabulous collections will be dispersed and end up in the hands of new collectors who will in turn pass them on . These things  outlast us , and long after we are gone and forgotten , they will still be in someones cabinet or on someones wall to be admired for another lifetime .

Over the years my tin collection has been sold and regenerated , but there is always a new item that catches the eye and at my age to buy something to put on the wall for a few years is not as appealing as it once was .
I'm sure there are many of us in the same boat

Awesome photos, great to see.

I have been selling quite a few signs recently, to help pay for the new car. As in the past I have had to do when buying a new house. You buy'em, enjoy'em, love'em, then at some point let someone else get the same thrill. Then you start a new affair with the next batch of enamel, but some of course, you just can't break up with.

Having another look through these gems . I find it fascinating Ken that you ( and many of us ) think of these times ( when these were available presumably ) as the heyday of collecting . Probably true as this was when these things from the past became desirable to collectors ..a generation change taking place.

Prior to that the parents of the  " Baby Boomers "  , had lived therough the depression years and the austerity of the war years . The following post war prosperity years saw a change when many from that generation , were able to give their children a good life.

People had jobs again and  and disposable income . Out with the dark old timber furniture (  such a shame )  and  in with the Laminex and chrome style  ( now collectable in it's own right   .  20 years later ( the 70's ) and a new generation dictated what was to become popular  .

The nostalgia of the pre war days ( as the memories of  wartime faded  ) remained and these advertising items became sought after . I'm glad that I was able to be a part of that , and that I have a few pieces that go back .. 30 or 40 years .

Sadly , the day to day technology that we now take for granted  ( digital photography , etc ) was not available to us back then . I have a few early photographs , somewhere ,from those days , but have been unable to find them .

You are fortunate to have those photo's of your daughter in such prosperous times
Great memories , and as you say   " it's all history "
