Salmon, Gluckstein & Co, founded in 1845 manufacturing Tobacco & Cigars at Clerkenwell Rd and 34, Whitechapel, E. In 1873, moved into retail in a big way and in 1896 were one of the first firms to manufacture cigarettes by machinery in London. The factory, plant etc were eventually sold outright to the I T C. Their tins and packets are very collectible. Popular brands were "Snake Charmer" - "Dandy Fifth" - "Life Boat" etc etc. "Old Mahogany" brand introduced in 1899 as shown in brochure.
