i posted on FB, but for anybody still here, I've been watching this one for well over a year, it came out of India. I kept going back to it every week or so but was turned off by the tough condition on the top side. These indian sellers always ask the world, but persistance paid off and seller finally came down to earth and accepted a reasonable offer for it which allowed me to get past the damage. I just love the image, 6 colors and no fading, probably part of a roof.
I can't find any information on D.C Keelings out of Liverpool. Nothing at all, not even in the London Gazette archive. Anybody have anything more on this company? Is this the only one known? I'm figuring 1910-1920? There is a 1884 prize medal logo on the LH side of packet. Real happy with it, might stick it in a frame....

A quick scout around suggests that Unilever Archives have a ledger concerning Keelings, so that must mean that they were taken over rather than went out of business. |

Also just found a Keeling baptism in Liverpool 1870/1 - father occupation, soap boiler. I also think that their business was at Queens Soap Works, Blundell Street and Kitchen Street. Sold for 95k in 1897. Seem to have been heavily involved in the export market, which sits nicely with your sign. |

Thanks for that, someone on the FB forum has suggested that they were taken over in the 1890s by Unilever, I couldn't seem to find anything in their online archive myself? I just love the sign, it has everything going for it, |

Hi Mick ,or should i now call you (mr.sensible)?..that packet on sign is stunning..Itz got colour and plenty of detail..I can see why it attracted you..only my opinion but i think the sign would of been alot bigger than is?? Like i say thats omo..If it was mine ide trim all the sign down and just leave a slight border around the packet..just a few mm..get gone of that Patina... |
