I found this on the web, still not sure if this is the sign or not. I have a couple calls in to people for their opinion, will keep updated.

Yes, the & and Y are different, and wondering about the size, I am thinking a 36''x60'' would look like a postage stamp on a big Locomotive?  More research to do.

Well there's no doubt it has come off a locomitive , as in your picture , it just happens to be a slightly different design . It could be an earlier or later sign than the other one , I think it's that simple . Could be two different sign makers at work , as well  ,that might also explain it .

Could the sign on Loco above be made from cast iron Mick?? (The coggs must be going nuts now Mick)🤣🤣🤣..Cast iron would be abit more durable than Enamel or even Tin as you suggested as you couldnt work it out ya self...Mick its over to you

It's obviously not original, the original is black and white 😂

Doubt if an emanel sign that size would have been fitted up on the side of the engine covers as there would have been too much vibration which would make its presence known to the enamelling over time.

Thanks for the reply, from what i am seeing, I agree, I am

leaning more toward the Caboose. I have left emails with a few retirees

from the "J" and they think it is from late 40s to early 50s, all say that it is

a very rare sign in great condition, but they are not sure where it would have

been used. Still researching.
