G'day Guys and Gals,

I can't work out why freighting signs from the USA is so expensive??

I was interested in bidding on a Ford light box, decided to ask for a quote on freight before I bid. It's a good thing I did, 20 x 20 x 10 inch box, weighing 8lb. Minimum weight they charge for is 24lb.The quote came in at US$396!!!   What the f**k!!!

Does anyone out there know what the cheapest and best way is to get signs from the USA. I have found that USPS are OK, but as soon as you go over their size restictions you pay through the nose.

Cheers Gordo

 G'day Gordo
I've had similar experiences from the USA with bulky or heavy items .

I've had a few  signs sent by Fedex and seems to be a better option for those  from the US  . With a bit of forward thinking you can can get a quote from Fedex before you kick off

Canadian Post is much worse ,  an absolute b@#tard . Don't go there
That's what we get for living  where we do ( best country in the world ) ,  arguably  ,  ( for you Poms )

Cheers

Hi Guys,

I buy regularly from States, a cheaper option is to ask seller to use their national mail service and send item US Mail International Priority, you can get some fairly bulky and medium sized signs through the system. But ask them to declare customs description favourably or you may be hit with VAT and an admin fee. Steer away from words  such as antique, vintage, old, retro, bygone etc, use words such as obsolete, used, second hand, display...

PS. American sellers always seem to stick by the rules. It makes no sense since they had the wild west. Certainly more like the Mild West now. Lie on a customs form - no way!!!
