Hi Guys, This mirror came into my hands today, Taylor & Ferguson famous scotch blends, Glasgow. It is 6ft long by 2 ft wide and very heavy. I dont think the frame is original to the mirror but the mirror has beautiful etched detail in the top corners, an etched border and etched swirls here and there. Maker marked into the etched border in the bottom right corner as shown in picture 5. Glass is really thick at least 6mm. Just wanted to know what the overall opinion of it is and if anyone has any info on it. Overall condition is good, some spotting, but to be expected! Thanks in advance!
Elaine
Thanks Al, really pleased with it but struggling for info, it seems that the blends mentioned on the mirror cannot be found and the only other info I can find is that the companies main success was the ambassador brand for the export market (usa) the company was founded in 1820, so I assume these blends predate the ambassador brand! will take pride of place in the house!
A very nice mirror and a nice size too - looks to be from about 1895 to 1910 - I can't quite read the makers name etched into the border - is it by Forrest & Son of Glasgow?
Regards Richard
Hi Richard, The name is McPhail & co Glasgow, cant seem to find anything online apart from another mirror with mcphail on it!
Thanks for the info
