My mate Paul talked me into taking this off his hands, he realised about an hour after buying it, that he may have bitten off a bit more than he could chew. I wasn't keen on buying it, because I thought it could sit in the shed for 6 months before I got motivated, a couple of weeks later, here it is, she lives again !!!!!

Hello Gordo,

Well done Gordo. Good to see another sign saved and even though petrol stuff aint my cup of tee you have done a marvelous job of that one. Recently I had 16 signs to save and I've worked my way through ten of them but sadly I didn't take any "before" pictures so it is not much point putting them on the forum.

Well done again and keep up the good work.

Regards, Rustycutters

Good to have some new blood in the game, get ready because life will never be the same once you get the collecting bug!!

If you try to do the restoration your self, it's quite inexpensive to do. I just start with some filler to the damaged areas, I didn't use car filler on this sign due to all the damage, plus I find car filler messy to work with and dries very quickly. I instead tried using a multi purpose filler which worked a treat, plenty of time to work with, before it goes off. Then the fun starts, trying to match up the colours. I generally just go to the hobby shop and buy the small model paint tins. You will discover that there are some colours that will just break your will to live, some are near impossible to get right. The resto of the Shell sign was pretty quick, I think I put in no more than 10 hours.

If you want, you can go down the route of getting a proffesional restorer to do the work for you, that's when things can get a bit pricey, but well worth it for those rare signs.

Cheers Gordo
