Had a bash on an early deep tip last week.

Started digging about half 7am and five of us went at it all day. The first find was a Cracofts pot lid which got chipped with a spade.

As you can see by the tyre, it was a lot of work for not much fresh. Towards the end we pulled out a Horners cream pot and then at the death we managed to stick a fork through a green print Horners. Never seen one before!

Anyways got down about 20ft excluding the slant of the banking and the thing collapsed very quickly.

Al.

Al,

Do you mean the hole collapsed in on itself?

How do you know where to dig?

Who's land is it, do you have to get permission?

Does that dig sample just a fraction of the dump?

Do you have to fill it in again?

How do you know you were 15 ft from the bottom?

Do you often make a fair days pay on a dig, though I assume that's not the only motivation?

You keep showing these pics and the questions keep piling up.

I just had to ask.

Al,

Do you mean the hole collapsed in on itself?#

-Yep, a 15ft wall fell in without any warning

How do you know where to dig?

-Its an old site that has been hammered for years. This is the last patch off undug. It was left because it is dangerous, awkward and desperately barren.

Who's land is it, do you have to get permission?

-Its waste land that can't be used for anything due to access and the nature of what has been dumped there.

Does that dig sample just a fraction of the dump?

-It used to be a huge tip, but has been machine many times.

Do you have to fill it in again?

-It kind of did it itself. We always leave holes as safe as we can.

How do you know you were 15 ft from the bottom?

-We have hit the bottom on other digs

Do you often make a fair days pay on a dig, though I assume that's not the only motivation?

-Never usually make the petrol money back or even the cost of a packet of Ibuprofen! Then again we have has some mega digs that on average make the excercise worthwhile.

You keep showing these pics and the questions keep piling up.

I just had to ask.

-Anytime.

-Al.

LMAO... Oh man that's freakin' manic, but what's a bit of dirt to a man on a mission to reach the center of the earth. The signs based on what's been found are looking good so far, it'll be interesting to see what appears as you get closer to the bottom.

If you find any more cream pots down there you know where I am. OK.

Cool photos... Keep 'em coming.
