  Hi,

I'm hoping someone on this forum can help me!

I picked up a fairly large mirror from a second hand shop, and I was wondering how to tell if it's a reproduction, or original.  Luckily it was pretty cheap, so I've not lost out if it's a repro, which I assume it is. However, I've noticed some wear and damage to the painted design that's made me wonder if it's older (although it's definitely not that old). The design is a 1920's style design, originally by Privat Livemont, and is an advert for Bitter Oriental.

If anyone could tell me anything about it, or about spotting the originals from the fakes, for future reference, I 'd be hugely appreciative!

Thanks for your time.

Yes this is a repro. A lot of this style were made in 70s and 80s some given as prizes at fairs.
Generally older mirrors are very heavy, sometimes the mirroring will have deteriorated. Bevelled edges to the glass indicate quality on older pieces.
Also the older glass has more imperfections in it. In certain lights you can see a "rippled" effect on old mirrors.
Also check on eBay see if there is one similar or three! Generally the repros turn up there often advertised as genuine.
But if you like it and it was cheap you havent lost out. Keep Hunting!
Jez.
