The attached pictures tell most people what has happened to the UK. I know which one I prefer. Service meant something fifty years ago.

Maybe I'm old and past it, but I can't see how things are better. Nowadays there is tons of packaging to dispose of - everything wrapped in plastic; try finding a butchers these days that don't have meat sealed in plastic with congealed blood inside (not hygenic)

Anyone remember dry goods sold 'loose'. And the time when the cash was handled by a woman that did'nt handle the food ?

I agree. Im not old enough to have been able to see shops like this, but i think they look great.

I think the same about factories and warehouses these days too, whereby these days they are all corrugated sheets, designed for cost not beauty and are so dull.

Your so right Fred! I can remember at the butchers dept. in our local Williams bros store the butcher served the customer and you paid a lady who was sat in a tiny little cubicle in the corner of the shop, she put the money in a container and it got sucked up a pipe to the cashiers office,
a couple of minutes later the change came down the pipe. I can see my nan now, sitting on the shop chair waiting while mum bought the meat and waited for the change.....happy days!.....
