Strange how you rarely see these in other parts of the country. maybe the Yorkshire folk knew the German's daren't invade the Northern parts of the UK.

Al

I was just going to comment on the same thing . Don't think I've ever seen any down South, Surrey, Sussex etc or even London ?

Do they exist for this end of the country ?

I do Joe, and it won't come off that wall for all the Yorkshire Tea in Yorkshire, just like the Cooper & Cooper's tea plant pictorial thats just off camera !!!

It seems that the old East Riding of Yorkshire was well blessed with these AA enamels, both winged and round versions, and fortunately between the ones that Joe, myself, Thornton le Dale Motor Museum & the guy above have got, quite a few are still out there on the original walls in the villages, or re-erected in new positions (usually higher up after Joe has made enquiries !!). Sadly none of the little £2 reward signs that went with them survive to my knowledge.

I think to display the ones you have with your classic Standard, Joe, is top rate. Well done!!

PS. in Richmond, North Yorkshire, there is/was a round AA sign recording the 'Point of Totality' for the solar eclipse, I think it was in 1927. There cannot be many of those around?

I have a picture of the sign in my archive but sadly well before digital cameras came along.

I was well pleased to pick this relatively local to me Kent one up at auction a few years ago, even if they did spell Detling wrong! apparently this was one of a batch that come from a council yard just after the war, they were used as a spinner disk on a fertilizer spreader body that someone was building on ex-army lorry chassis. this one just happened to be left over, the others presumably long since scrapped with the spreaders
