Is this Shell double sided can, right or wrong?? I would have thought that the detail in the top of the can and spout doesn't look right?? Am I right ??

Here's a pic of one I missed out on recently, the detail on the lid is like chalk and cheese. |

Its a good repro, but as Gordo has well illustrated, is a duff un. Look at the cutting out of the handle. Al. |

Just to clarify, why it's a duff one. It's a double sided hanging sign, with only one hanging hole? Should have a hole in the handle as well. Most repros are damaged intentionally to age them, rarely do they damage the central image. Always a give away. |

Ahhh, thought it was a chip, can see the hole now. "Seeing the optician is either advice or a clever pun" I assume we are talking about the top sign in this thread, if so I stand by my duffer comment. Either way if it looks good on your wall enjoy it. |

I'm coming in for a load of stick about this sign. the new owner is convinced its right, but looking at it again, I'm sticking to my guns.
Looking at the layout of the text SHELL MEX one is neat and the other looks like its been done by me. Also, the pouring spout in the top one has had the edge ring cut off it, but the lower one has been quite rightly drawn so the cap is higher than the spout so this is not a problem. The perspective one the spout is all wrong too.
The dye cut of the can has edge ribs in the original but look at the top edge of the top one. Top left and right as well as bottom right edges are cut in rather than protruding like the original. The hole on the repro also goes through the design of the can which is a bit odd. Either its a second or a repro, but can't imagine it beign sold from the factory like that.

It does matter. Of course we can move on, but feedback like this is educational to some of us. Invaluable even. I didn't intend to take a dig at anyone. Just offered my opinion. I'm certain the other contributors weren't either. |
