I bought an old wooden cigar box at a yard sale today.  It's a wooden box in great condition.  The front says "John Surrey's Cadets"  The box held 100 cigars and has  the notice on the back of the box, printed directly on box.  It also has a greenish blue tax stamp that reads US 100 IR Small Cigars, Series 113.  The stamp does not appear to have been cancelled.  Can anyone give me some information on this piece?  I've scoured what I can from the internet, but I can't find a thing about these particular cigars other than an old ad.  Even info on John Surrey Cigars is very limited.  The address is Fifth Ave. NYC.

Thanks in advance!

Hi Christina24,

My only reference for cigars is a publication by Tony Hyman "Cigar Boxes". I have checked my copy and can't find any reference to this particular brand and would suggest you contact him at Arnot Art Museum, Elmira, New York 14901 as he is the authority on "Cigars". Good Luck.
