Funny you should ask because I have recently discovered a form of tribal art that originates from the splendid shores of your fine kingdom. There is a tribe known simply as UKSWFF. That's United Kingdom Saltwater Fly Fishing for the culturally retarded.

Just as the Hopi Indians of the US and the Naga headhunters of Nagaland decorate their objects with shiny stuff, so do the dedicated anglers of Britain.

I copied the following posting from the UKSWFF forum. It is a truly fascinating description from some chap in Yorkshire called Steve who likes to decorate with beads and sequins. It just goes to show that it doesn't matter if you are an Eskimo, a headhunter or a Steve The Tyke, in the end, we all like shiny shit and do odd things in our pursuit of happiness.

Welcome to the forum.

Thanks for the info regarding your fly set up, very helpful. I personally use a ragworm / eel pattern with beads and sequins mixed in. I think all will agree that it is the little puffs of sands that attract the flatties. There is a few tying flattie flies including my self in the fly tying swap, why not join us.

Aye Up Vlad, this is the genuine Tyke here - the sea fisherman must be an imposter, The only fishing I do involves reeling in enamel. I'm nearly as good as enamels1000, nearly, but not quite. I think it must be the air blowing in at the tip, he can certainly sniff 'em out. I've got some beauties that have landed on deck recently, and Joe the Kellythorpe Kollector is going to be drooling when he sees the catch, as will his side kick Eddy The East Riding Eagle.

If you check out www.tennants.co.uk Vlad, and look on the HEXT collection sale, you'll see there was some NAGA stuff for sale there. Looked pretty fearsome stuff to me when I was at the auction. Anyway, I am enlightened, having seen them in the flesh, and they do command respect. That should stop the pins.

Hiya Steve

I had no idea what a "TYKE" was so I did an internet search and found out it is someone from Yorkshire. The only other Tyke I have been exposed to is the butcher Fred Elliot from Coronation Street and my wife who does a great imitation of him. When I saw there was a Tyke by the name of Steve I wrongly assumed it was you. Pretty stupid on my part considering there must be thousands of Steve's who are Tykes. I wonder if there is a Vlad the Tyke?

Thanks for the link to the auction site. It was interesting to see the auction estimates and then the hammer price. Those pieces sold for many times the estimate.

Anyhow, the pins are away. I was never interested in enamels before coming to this site but now have four of them (it's a start). I look forward to learning more.

One last thing. I just Googled "Naga Headhunter" and there are 216,000 entries on the internet that pertain to the subject. I was surprised that the 35th entry out of 216,000 is a link to the AA site and this thread. Think about it Steve, you are now going to be semi-famous to the headhunting crowd.

Vlad

Hi Eddy

I know about the English Norah Welling's sailors but even though 2 of the 3 dolls look like her product I am pretty sure that neither is by her. One of the dolls was made with no feet and the other shows no indication of there ever being a label attached.

I did find the following.

Vlad

The topic that won't die!!

Canadian winter can be a cold and dark affair. So what's a lumberjack to do. Well let me show you.

Take a lumberjack.

Or a lumberjackess.

Give them one of these.

Amd one of these.

And you get Canadian chainsaw art.

Who says we dont's got culture, eh!!??
