                                  THE STEERING WHEEL CLUB,

Having browsed the forums sections for quite a while now ,I am always impressed with the cross the board knowledge that the many & varied collecters who contribute on here bring to the table, & invariably with various contributions you nearly always come up with an answer. I hope thats the case with this., & any contributions would be greatly appreciated .

I am trying to find out more about "THE STEERING WHEEL CLUB"  my understanding is that this was an exclusive club loosely set up in the 50/60s by the likes of Jim Clark Sterling Moss & some of the other top racers in F1 of the day  ,( but I dont know who), they would meet in clubs in Mayfair &  Soho (London ) for suitable hedonistic high jinx ( Im thinking it was along the lines of  Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin & the the boys who made up the " Rat Pack" back in the day in LA ),

If true they must have been brilliant parties.

Think I  heard somewhere that they had there own badge ( for a  badge bar, on there road cars ) made with this club name on it .

.Any help with any  knowledge of this club, is greatly appreciated,

NOMAD

There was a club actually caller the Steering Wheel club near Hyde Park Corner, Don't know about racing drivers but I think it had links to Ruth Ellis, who was the last woman hanged in this country

Just looked it up, The bloke Ruth Ellis killed was linked to the drivers you mention. Also found details of ceramic items from the club. They had a Steering wheel motiff with famous drivers signatures around it.

Dear Nomad2, found your query on this site while browsing Google for' The Steering Wheel Club'. Often look to see if there's anything new on it. I can tell you it's complete history. But first I want to get an article published on Wikipedia, so that it's officially documented. May I ask why you wish to know? ie. just curiosity, - book - film maybe? Regards Kiboko
